(February 17, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.- Candidates are finalizing their petitions as the candidate filing deadline is fast approaching.
The candidate filing deadline is the cutoff date for candidates to appear on their perspective ballots.
The qualifying deadline for a myriad races in the City and County falls on February 20 by noon of this year.
One race where the filing deadline is the 20th is the District 27 State of Tennessee Senate seat.
The District 27 Senate seat is currently held by Senator Lowe Finney (D-Jackson), who said he would not seek re-election.
Four candidates have picked up petitions for the May 2014 primary. Of those four, only one has officially qualified as of February 13.
Currently, Edward S. Jackson (R- Jackson), Brandon Dodds (R- Newbern), James Baxter (I- Jackson), and Randy Lamb (D- Jackson) have picked up petitions to run.
