(March 4, 2014) Nashville, Tenn.- The former Tennessee magistrate that changed a baby’s name has been censured.
In August in 2013, Lu Ann Ballew decided the name the child had, Messiah, was a title and that is only held by Jesus Christ.
The following month, the decision to change the name was overturned.
According to the Associated Press, her attorneys argued that Ballew was acting in the best interest of the child, because having that name would make life difficult.
The Board of Judicial Conduct Disciplinary Counsel Tim Discenza told the Associated Press that a panel met on Monday and voted unanimously for a public censure.
Discenza said that it was the most serious action that could be take since Ballew had already lost her position as a magistrate.
