FHU’s Nursing Program Receives Accreditation

HENDERSON, TN—Nov. 19 —The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education has accredited the baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Freed-Hardeman University.

The U.S. Secretary of Education officially recognizes CCNE as a national accreditation agency. CCNE confirms the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate and residency programs in nursing. The commission also supports and encourages continuing self-assessment by nursing programs.

“The granting of accreditation by the CCNE is a testament to the quality of effectiveness of the FHU baccalaureate nursing program,” Dr. Chris White, chairman of the FHU nursing program, said. “It communicates to prospective students that they are coming to a reputable program and assures potential employers that our students are engaged in a rigorous program of study committed to the high academic and professional standards they desire.”

Dr. C.J. Vires, FHU’s vice president for academics, added: “This accomplishment represents a tremendous effort on the part of so many here at FHU. The faculty and staff within the nursing program have worked tirelessly and made significant sacrifices to ensure this accomplishment.”

FHU’s nursing department offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an RN to BSN program. Students are admitted to the department of nursing in the spring of each year; currently, 41 juniors and seniors are enrolled in the program.
