‘Family members are being held against their will,’ JPD responds to situation involving barricade near downtown

From Stephanie Graham, Civilian Public Information Officer, Community Coordinator – the Jackson Police Department –

The Jackson Police Department continues to work a situation where an individual has barricaded himself and others inside a home on Monroe Street, which is off South Royal Street, near the Neely House.

South Royal Street is now blocked between Martin Luther King Drive and South Highland Avenue.

Please avoid the area.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., today, an individual entered the Jackson Police Department lobby stating “family members are being held against their will.”

Officers responded and made contact.

A male suspect shut the door and locked it. Some contact has been made with the individuals inside the home.

This is an ongoing investigation.

“JPD will be on site until this is resolved,” said Thom Corley, JPD chief of police.
