MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. (July 2, 2015) – Authorities have an escaped inmate back in custody who walked off work detail Monday in Lawrence County
According to the sheriff’s office, 35-year-old Jason Kirk surrendered Thursday afternoon in the 5100 block of Highway 70 in west Madison County.
Authorities say Kirk called Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday with a stolen cell phone and said he wanted to turn himself in.
Kirk walked off from a work detail in Lawrence County. He later led law enforcement on a high-speed chase on interstate 40. He abandoned the vehicle at a rest stop and fled into the woods.
Lawrence County along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals cooperated to locate Kirk in the Denmark area after officers determined a location by pinging the cellphone. Law Enforcement officers saturated the area where Kirk was later taken into custody, according to the release.
Jason Kirk is being held in the Madison County Jail.
