Electric rates increasing at Jackson Energy Authority

Due to a Fuel Cost Adjustment from the Tennessee Valley Authority, electric rates at Jackson Energy Authority will increase February 1.

The average monthly adjustment is $0.38, which increases the average residential bill from $124.94 to $125.32.

The announcement was made when JEA’s board of directors held its monthly meeting at the Tennergy Building, Thursday.

Winston Truett, a CPA with Alexander Thompson Arnold presented an audited financial report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

“We had a presentation by our auditor with ATA, and they went over the audit with our board of directors – and we had a clean audit,” said Jim Ferrell, president of Jackson Energy Authority. “We had a couple of items where we are paying off some of our gas debt … a $20 million debt we are going to pay off over the next two or three years.”

Ferrell said Jackson Energy Authority will be installing some of its fiber optic lines underground and adding some additional fiber optic lines along the (Highway) 45 Bypass.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is requiring the Telecom Division of JEA to remove its fiber from TVA structures along the Highway 45 Bypass from north of Vann Drive to North Star Drive.

Bids were received Dec. 12, 2017 for the relocation of approximately 11,100 feet of 432 count fiber to underground and the removal of aerial facilities along this route.

Jackson Boring & Trenching in Oakfield submitted the lowest bid of $155,050, and TVA has agreed to reimburse the Telecom Division up to $91,285 for the project.
