Driver in hit-and-run accident being held at Criminal Justice Center

Barry Lynn Jones Jr., is being held at the Criminal Justice Center, after he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in the area of Ridgecrest Road and Parkstone Place in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle, August 14.

The victim, Kim Harris, was found unresponsive in the roadway and transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Harris passed away in ICU as a result of the injuries she had sustained.

Witnesses on the scene stated that a dark colored vehicle traveling east on Ridgecrest Road had struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

On August 15, the JPD was contacted by a local wrecker service regarding a vehicle they had towed from Bedford Farms Road to a local body shop.

Investigators located a blue Ford F150 – which had significant front end damage.

Items collected from the crime scene matched the damage to the vehicle belonging to Barry Jones, who stated he hit a deer on Watson Road, and denies hitting a pedestrian on Ridgecrest Road.

The statements made by Jones were contradicted by physical evidence.
