MADISON COUNTY. – At a special event Tuesday morning Madison County Sheriff John Mehr was presented keys to a new 2015 Ford Explorer. Brenda Jones, Law Enforcement Liaison Officer for the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, was in Madison County to announce winners in the 11th annual Law Enforcement Challenge.
The annual competition designed to recognize and reward the best overall traffic safety programs across the State. Qualifying Agencies were eligible to win a fully equipped police vehicle.
Sergeant Joseph Gill, Traffic Director for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, was in competition with nine other Agencies. Sgt. Gill said he was elated when the key he drew started the lights flashing and motor running.
“Over the last decade, we have seen the number of traffic fatalities in Tennessee reduced by over one-third,” said Governor’s Highway Safety Office Director Kendell Poole. “It’s an honor to recognize the agencies that work on the front lines of traffic safety. We appreciate their tireless efforts to assure that motorists arrive at their destinations safely.”
Sheriff Mehr added “We are so very proud of the program and excited we won the vehicle and we have put it in service.”
