BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.— A 16 year-old Haywood High School student has died after being taken to a Memphis hospital. School officials have confirmed that Tekarian Maclin died this evening at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Exactly what happened to Maclin is unclear and is being investigated.
This morning about 11:00 a.m. an ambulance was called to the Haywood High School Field House. The dispatcher said a 16 year-old was complaining of shortness of breath. School officials confirm that the call was for Maclin, who had been participating in a Tomcat football practice that had ended about an hour earlier. Paramedics checked the student out but he was not taken to the hospital, according to sources. His mother— later in the day— called the ambulance service and Tekarian was flown to Le Bonheur by air ambulance where he later died.
