Dan Hughes becomes ‘Voice of Peabody Golden Tide’ for 2019 football season

After an absence of 13 years, Dan Hughes returns to broadcasting high school football on the local level.

Hughes, who is best known for his work as the play-by-play announcer of the Lexington High School football Tigers, becomes the ‘Voice of the Peabody Golden Tide,’ when games are live-streamed on WNWS.COM.

“I started broadcasting in 1979 and left in 2006,” Hughes said, “I’ve done this for over 30 years, and I think this is going to be a lot of fun.”

The fun starts at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, when Peabody entertains county rival Milan.

“Things have changed so much since I was in radio full-time,” Hughes said, “I used to wonder where the telephone line was so I could broadcast the game – now I have to go through some training and learn how we do the games digitally.

“It’s going to be different, but that being said, the game is still being played on the field … 22 players on the field and it’s still the same game – I’ve just got to paint the picture.”
