A model program for community policing continues to grow in popularity and numbers, following graduating services for the Crisis Intervention Team at the West Tennessee Regional Training Center.
Following 40 hours of intensive training, certificates were presented to 40 graduates.
The program brings together law enforcement, mental health providers, hospital emergency departments and individuals with mental illnesses and their families to improve responses to people in crisis.
The programs enhance communication while identifying mental health resources for assisting people in crisis and ensure that officers receive the training and support they need.
Since classes began in 2010, more than 400 people have graduated.
