A Middle Tennessee woman and her boyfriend have been indicted following the death of her 23-month-old child. Cody Key is charged with

first-degree murder. The child’s mother, Jessica May, is charged with aggravated child neglect. They are charged in the May 17 death of Colten Alexander May.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that a DeKalb County grand jury charged 23-year-old Cody Key with felony murder and aggravated child abuse and 19-year-old Jessica May with aggravated child neglect. Key and May were arrested at their home in Smithville.

According to Nashville media WSMV, Smithville radio station WJLE spoke with District Attorney Bryant Dunaway on Tuesday. “Over the weekend, the child was brought to the DeKalb County Hospital by the child’s mother and the mother’s boyfriend,” Dunaway told the station. “The child was deceased at the time of arrival. The child we now know was killed by the boyfriend of the mother late Saturday night or early Sunday morning in their home where they resided together.”
Police said Cody Key reported to officers that he found the child unresponsive while baby-sitting him. Investigators said the child died from

repeated physical abuse.
Key was being held on $1 million bond and May on $300,000 bond.
