Conger makes resignation official during Jackson City Council meeting

Calling the moment ‘bittersweet,’ Scott Conger resigned as Jackson City Councilman for District 5, when the City Council held its November meeting, Tuesday.

“The past six years I have enjoyed serving on the City Council,” Conger said. “It has been an honor and a privledge to be able to serve the citizens of District 5 and the citizens of Jackson … I look forward to serving in new capacities as we move forward in our new venture in life.”

Conger resigned his position after moving out of his district.

Jackson City Mayor Jerry Gist, who called Conger “A great addition to the Council,” said the next step is to fill the position.

“The plan is now to take resumes this month from qualified voters in his district who are interested in becoming a councilman in that District,” Gist said. “They get the resumes to me, I’ll make copies (and) give them to the council (members). At the next meeting we’ll vote on his replacement (and) after the election, we’ll recess the Council and swear them in.”

The individual elected will have to run for in a special City election in August 2018 to fill in the remainder of the term – until the 2019 election.
