Civic club updated on progress of BlueOval City

Sheronda Green, BlueOval SK community engagement coordinator, updated members of the Old Hickory Rotary Club during the organization’s weekly meeting at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton, Monday.

Located in the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County, BlueOval SK – a joint venture with the Ford Motor Company and SK, views itself as paving the way in the Electric Vehicle revolution.

“We broke ground in August, 2022, and we are building a 4.9 million-square-foot building in Stanton, Tennessee,” Green said, “To date, they have worked 1.2 million work hours. The height of the building will be about 90-feet tall.

“The workforce in Tennessee … we are looking to hire 6,000 employees between the vehicle plant and the battery plant … a 50-50 partnership between BlueOval City and SK ON.”

While production of the first F-150 at BlueOval City is about 30 months away, BlueOval City is viewed as a source of high-tech innovation, great careers and community investment in West Tennessee.

Ford’s goal is to produce 2 million electric vehicles globally each year by 2026.

As part of a new industrial revolution, the entire plant will be carbon neutral.

The massive new environmentally and technologically advanced vehicle and battery manufacturing campus in West Tennessee is looking to lead the shift to an electric America scheduled to deliver Ford’s next all-new electric truck and batteries that will power future Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

In September, 2021, Ford announced the $5.6 billion project to build electric F-Series pickups at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Stanton, which is located about 45 miles west of Jackson at exit 42 off Interstate 40.

In West Tennessee, the project is predicted to boost the economies of several counties.

While Ford plans to employ about 6,000 workers at the plant, construction of the factory and the arrival of Ford suppliers will create thousands of more jobs.

The BlueOval SK battery plant at BlueOval City will employ 2,500 people.
