The total number of receiving yards Brayden Waller recorded in Trinity Christian Academy’s 64-41 win at Fayette Academy, Sept. 8, was the equivalent of three-and-a-half football fields.
A junior wide receiver, Brayden set a school record with 341 yards after making 11 receptions and scoring four touchdowns for the Lions, now 2-1.
For his efforts, Brayden is the Victory Honda of Jackson, NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM, high school football player of the week.
“None of this would have been possible without our offensive line, which allowed (quarterback) Cooper (Vailes) to get the ball to me,” Brayden said, “Khy (Lekhy Thompkins) is an outstanding running back and it opened up the field for him.”
Coaches quote:
“Brayden is just an outstanding athlete – a great receiver and defensive back – but most of all he is a standout young man … just a good character young man. He tries to things right in the classroom … a good leader with his peers,” said Darren Bowling, TCA’s head football coach, “We are very happy to have him as part of the team, and I’m excited to be his coach … working with him and trying to help him get to the next level because he is an outstanding athlete.
“The game plan we had – coach (Michael) Mancini did a good job as offensive coordinator to stretch the field … Brayden, giving (running back) Khy (Lekhy Thompkins) the ball inside, and (quarterback) Cooper (Vailes) did a great job as quarterback, but as Brayden said earlier, without the offensive line, none of this works.”
TCA entertains Manassas, at 7 p.m., Thursday.
