MCKENZIE – John Weeks has been named as the new head softball coach at Bethel University.
Weeks owns Impact Sports Academy in Henderson, which is softball base driven, implementing group classes and camps.
The Academy fields six teams with ages 8u, 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u 18u and manages the development of players at each age.
Weeks has served as a pitching, hitting and catcher instructor at the Academy since 2011, where 46 of his players have advanced to play college softball.
Pitching mechanics, hitting fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, speed, agility and conditioning are points of emphasis taught at the academy.
“We are excited Coach Weeks is willing to accept this challenge of being our head coach,” said Dale Kelley, Bethel’s director of athletics. “We feel he has the ability to lead our program and compete at the highest level not only in our conference but also at the national level.”
Weeks, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, is also a managing partner of the Madison Family Walk-In Clinic in Jackson.
He previously taught in the Chester County, Madison County, Murfreesboro and Nashville school systems.
“I appreciate the trust and confidence Bethel University has placed upon me,” Weeks said. “I look forward to this season and the many challenges it will bring. I am excited to build a program here that is respected, admired and envied as a premiere collegiate softball program, not only in our state, but across the nation.”
