The Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to report of shots fired in the 3700 block of Harts Bridge Road shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
Investigators say Christopher Young, a correctional officer with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, heard what sounded like a car door closing outside his home. According to Young he heard the sound of someone tampering with the lock on his back door.
Officer Young says he went outside to investigate when he was attacked by the suspect with a knife. During the struggle, Officer Young shot two (2) rounds at the suspect. The suspect fled down the driveway. Officer Young did not see a vehicle or any other suspects in the area. Officer Young received cuts to his arm and chest as a result of this struggle.
The suspect has been described as wearing a black ski mask and a black long sleeve shirt. He appeared to be 5’11” to 6’ tall and approximately 200 pounds.
Officer Christopher Young has been employed with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office since April 2013.
