On Tuesday Madison County Voters cast ballots in Republican and Democrat Primaries
6032 voters cast ballots, 5130 Republicans voted in 6 contested races and cast complimentary votes in uncontested seats, 902 cast complimentary ballots but had no contested race. 3207 ballots were cast in early voting and 2825 voted on election day.
The race that had the most interest was the Republican challenge between Kyle Atkins and Edward Martindale for Circuit Court District 26, Division III. The court serves three counties, Madison, Chester, and Henderson but only Madison and Henderson declared primaries.
Atkins defeated Martindale in both counties, 5093 Atkins, 3810 Martindale (Madison – 2745 Atkins, 2348 Martindale) (Henderson – 2274 Atkins, 1536 Martindale)
Kyle Atkins will go on as the Republican nominee to the August General election and face incumbant Nathan Pride who is running as an Independent.
In other races, County Commissioner Adrian Eddleman was defeated by newcomer Tracy Carney in District 9 position 2, Harold Petty bested Michael Taylor for County Commission, District 10, Position 3. In the Constable races Jimmy Jordan won over King Polvado, Fred Cunningham beat two challengers, Wesley Jordan and Phillip Tosh, and in a very close race between two incumbents, Jeff Lake defeated Dan Vaughn by a close 21 vote margin.
Those without Democrat challengers who won their races will take office in September and those with challengers will face their opponent in the August General election
In other election news our sister station 95.3 Brownsville Radio reports that voters soundly defeated a proposed Metro Charter referendum by an 86% – 14% margin against. around 3600 of about 11500 registered voters cast ballots.
