ATF Releases Preliminary Findings from Kilgore Plant Explosion

(February 28, 2014) Toone, Tenn.- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or ATF, has completed their investigation.

 

They released their preliminary results on Friday for the Kilgore Flares manufacturing plant explosion that took the life of employee Michael Chism.

 

The ATF’s National Response Team has ruled the incident non-criminal in nature. The explosion was classified as accidental. The explosion occurred in a mixing room. 

 

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen stated, “Condolences are with the family of Michael Chism during this traumatic event. The community suffered a great loss due to this devastating incident.”

 

The NRT collaborated with multiple local agencies like Hardeman County Sherriff’s Office, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Toone Tennessee Fire Department, Hardeman County Emergency Management, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration to assist in the investigation.
