An agreement was reached in Madison County Chancery Court concerning a ‘Drag Show’ during ‘Pride Day,’ which will be held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, Saturday.
Steve Maroney – Chancellor of the Chancery Court – 26th Judicial District – read the agreement Friday, which stated –
- No person under the age of 18 years old shall be permitted to attend the aforementioned Drag Show.
- Jackson TN Pride, and its organizers, agree to check identification to ensure attendees of the Drag Show are over the age of 18 years old.
- Plaintiffs agree to voluntarily dismiss their complaint immediately upon entry of this Order with prejudice.
- All performers, event organizers, attendees, and vendors shall conform to all state laws and local ordinances on October 8, 2022 at the Jackson Pride event.
- The City of Jackson, Tennessee shall provide law enforcement personnel for the Jackson TN Prride on October 8, 2022 for the purpose of keeping peace and enforcing the law.
- The City of Jackson, Tennessee shall enforce the law as it would any other event held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
Parties shall each be responsible for their own costs and fees.
Local politicians and area citizens filed a complaint against the City of Jackson in Madison County Chancery Court from allowing the Defendant from permitting use of the Defendant’s property known as the Carl Perkins Civic Center from being utilized for the purposes of hosting female impersonators in contrivance of Tennessee law.
Each of the Plaintiffs – including State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) District 27 and State Representative Chris Todd (R-Jackson) District 73, are residents of Madison County, Jackson, Tennessee and number more than ten (10) citizens of the county where the public nuisance may exist, therefore, pursuant to T.C.A. § 29-3-102, the Plaintiffs may petition this Court for injunctive relief.
The following Plaintiffs are members of the First United Methodist Church in Jackson, Tennessee and are residents of Madison County, Tennessee: Forrest and Paula Butler, Sara Rainey, Carolyn Yarbough (sic), Laurie Horton, Ron and Yvonne Hale, Lewis and Charlotte Zerfoss, Thomas and Janet Stallings, and Mary Rudd.
