Jackson, TN — The Jackson Symphony has received a landmark commitment from Matlock Companies: a $250,000 investment to support and expand two of the Symphony’s most impactful initiatives, The Jackson Symphony Music Academy (JSMA) and its Regional Music Centers, and the Music & Healing program.
This transformative gift will:
-
Fund dedicated instructors and resources for Regional Music Centers across West Tennessee, increasing free access to high-quality music education.
-
Support essential needs for students, including instruments, clothing, and transportation assistance.
-
Expand Music & Healing programs to include more area hospitals, senior care facilities and the new Ronald McDonald House in Jackson.
-
Provide funding for events, such as sensory-friendly concerts, that ensure inclusivity for audiences of all abilities.
“The generosity of Matlock Companies creates impact at every level of our mission,” said Sherry Freeman, CEO of The Jackson Symphony. “Their investment not only provides children across West Tennessee with opportunities to learn and thrive through music education, but also brings comfort to patients, caregivers, and family members during their most vulnerable or difficult moments. This gift ensures that music remains a source of connection, joy, and transformation for our entire community.”
For Matlock Companies, the journey began at a Symphony on the Move concert.
“That was the first time we heard about Music & Healing, and it immediately resonated with us,” said Michelle Matlock. “We wanted to be part of something that touches lives in such a personal and meaningful way. As we became more involved, we’ve been continually impressed by the Symphony’s work with young musicians through the Music Academy and Regional Music Centers. Supporting both healing and education through music is exactly the kind of legacy we want to build.”
All Symphony initiatives are designed to eliminate barriers, empower the next generation, and make music accessible to all, regardless of circumstance. This new gift will help sustain and grow these programs well into the future.
