by Keith Sherley: MADISON CO, Tenn (January 9, 2017) – According to Madison County Fire Department authorities, on Monday at approximately 4:15 AM, the Madison County Fire Department responded to a house fire at 89 Bemis Cemetery Road in South Madison County.
MCFD Captain Don Friddle said upon arrival fire units encountered a totally involved one-story wood frame single family home.
According to Friddle, it took firefighters approximately 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. After knocking down the initial flames, firefighters located the body of a male that they believe to be the sole occupant of the home.
Madison County Fire Investigators along with Investigators from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to establish a cause of the fire. Initial findings indicate the fire possibly started in or around a wood-burning stove located in the living room.
There is no indication of foul play and all data leans toward an accidental fire. Investigators believe the home was equipped with a working smoke alarm.
The name of the victim is currently being withheld pending positive identification.
