Jackson State Community College faculty voted ‘no confidence’

JACKSON, Tenn. - Jackson State Community College faculty voted 'no confidence' in the
community college President Bruce Blanding,

The announcement comes after Blanding’s announcement of retirement.

81 faculty members cast votes, 68 voted “no confidence”. The faculty does
not have the authority to hire or fire a president, but a
vote of no confidence does carry weight with the Tennessee Board of
Regents.

Blanding who has been President since February 2004, announced in April
that he would retire in January 2017. However, the school announced on
Friday that Blanding requested the Tennessee Board of Regents move up
his retirement date effective immediately according to a news release.

JSCC vice president, Horace Chase, was named interim president.

A search for a new President is already underway, Horace Chase said he
will not seek to be considered for the position.
The board expects to appoint a new president by the end of the year.
