ARM’s ‘Room in the Inn’ hosts 11th annual Hub City Classic Basketball Tournament

Jackson, Tennessee — Hundreds of players and families from across West Tennessee are gearing up for the 11th Annual Hub Classic Basketball Tournament, organized by Area Relief Ministries (ARM). The tournament will take place from Dec. 28 through Dec. 30, 2023, at Liberty Technology High School, with the first game starting at 10 a.m. and the last game at 7 p.m. Parking is free.

General admission tickets are available at the door for $10, and a three-day pass can be purchased for $27, exclusively on Dec. 28. Concessions will be provided by Liberty Technology High. The tournament will feature six girls’ teams from Chester, Crockett and Madison counties and eight boys’ teams from Chester, Crockett, Lauderdale, Madison and Shelby counties. Live musical entertainment by Kelsea Merriweather will be featured on December 30.

Local community leaders will participate in a three-point shot contest, including Madison County Mayor AJ Massey, Councilwoman Julie Holt, Pastor Curtis Morman of Mt. Zion Church, CEO of United Way Matt Marshall, County Commissioner and First South Bank Branch Manager Mike Bryant, and County Commissioner and Senior Director of Childhood success with United Way Olivia Abernathy.

The Hub Classic has become Jackson’s premier tournament since the loss of the NAIA tournament in 2011.

Celebrating its 46th year of service, ARM serves the community through various programs, including The Open Arm, Fresh Start, Turning Point and Room in the Inn. Room in the Inn partners with local congregations to provide homeless men with a safe place to sleep and a meal during the winter months. ARM has provided over 4,000 beds and 10,000 meals in total. The Fresh Start program offers job training in collaboration with Goodwill Career Solutions to homeless men, Turning Point provides housing for homeless men with disabilities and The Open Arm offers a day center and resources to help the homeless access medical care, housing assistance and other necessities.

Individuals interested in volunteering for the Hub Classic can find more information at areareliefministries.org/events/classic/, or they can make a donation to Area Relief Ministries at areareliefministries.org or by making checks payable to ARM and sending them to 108 S. Church St., Jackson, TN 38301.
