TCA announces new varsity football coach and associate athletic director

From Trinity Christian Academy –

Trinity Christian Academy is excited to announce Darren Bowling as our new varsity head football coach and associate athletic director.

Coach Bowling has answered God’s call to take the helm in these roles after Coach Blake Butler’s transition to ECS in Memphis this spring.

Head of School Judy Brown shared that “TCA has been blessed by Coach Butler and his family over the past 12 years. We are also blessed that God has brought Coach Bowling to TCA to help lead and disciple our athletes and coaches with excellence.”

Bowling has served successfully for over 30 years in both public and independent schools such as Obion County Central High School in Tennessee, Indianola Academy in Mississippi, and Murray High School in Kentucky, where he currently serves.

He is an experienced athletic director and an accomplished football coach with numerous state, district, and regional football championships. As former head coach with the Union City Golden Tornadoes, Bowling led his team to four state championships in 2009, 2013, 2014 (1A), and 2017 (2A) during his 11 years at the school.

Bowling was awarded the TSSAA State Football Coach of the Year in 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017, and the Tennessee Titans High School Coach of the Year in 2013.

Coach Bowling loves athletics as a whole and is a successful track coach earning the MAIS State Track and Field Coach of the Year award for both boys and girls in 2003.

TCA Athletic Director Dexter Williams said, “We are excited to welcome a high caliber coach like Coach Bowling to our TCA family. His coaching success is remarkable and I’m excited about the impact that he will have not only on our football program, but also our entire school community. I look forward to serving alongside him.”

Coach Bowling shared, “I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the TCA family. I have always felt that God called me to use athletics as a platform to mentor and disciple young men and women as they mature into future Christian leaders.

“I am looking forward to serving alongside the faculty and staff in continuing to advance the mission of Trinity Christian Academy.”

Coach Bowling and his wife, Dawn, have been married about 33 years and are originally from Greenville, Mississippi, where they both attended Christian school.

They are proud parents of four adult children – Chase, Meri-Morgan, and twins Taylor and Tyler. We are honored and thrilled to welcome the Bowling family to Trinity Christian Academy.
