South Side High School won the TSSAA Class 3A girls basketball state championship – the first in school history – and completed an undefeated season in the process with a 62-52 win over Livingston Academy at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University, Saturday.
The Lady Hawks (34-0) reached the final with a 44-31 win over Upperman in the quarterfinals, before defeating Elizabethton 84-76, in the semifinals.
Ti’mia Lawson, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, scored 15 points, for the Lady Hawks, who never trailed in the game.
Jaidynn Askins, led all scorers in the title game with 19, followed by Albany Collins with 18.
Lawson, Askins, Collins and Jakarrah Anderson were named all-tournament.
