A total of 192 Jackson families have their food pantries fuller this week.
For 131 years during the Christmas season, the Elks Lodge No. 192 has assembled and distributed food boxes to needy families in Jackson.
Over 20 food items are included that can be prepared for a Christmas meal for the recepients. Those who receive food boxes must apply for holiday assistance. A form is filled out ahead of time and approved by the club.
Saturday night, 70 Elks members and volunteers converged on the lodge, located at 28 Executive Drive in Jackson, to take their posts at a makeshift assembly line.
Members then gathered Sunday morning to deliver the 192 baskets to those in need across Madison County.
The food boxes are just one of the Elks Club service projects.
