Fisk University Announces President Resigns

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The president of Fisk University has resigned.

The university announced the resignation of H. James Williams on Monday. Williams has been in the post less than three years.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1LrXQ54 ) reports Fisk board of trustees chair Barbara Landers Bowles thanked Williams for his role in Fisk’s recent advancements.

The university said in a statement that Williams is leaving to pursue other opportunities in higher education.

During Williams’ presidency, Fisk reaffirmed its regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and increased enrollment by 40 percent to more than 850 students.

Fisk said university board member Frank L. Sims will be interim president until a successor to Williams is named.
