Health Department discontinuing universal COVID-19 contact tracing Feb. 14

From the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department –

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will stop notifying and investigating every case of COVID-19 starting Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 based on recommendations from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) and public health agencies nationwide.

“We have been anticipating this shift in the pandemic,” Regional Director Kim Tedford said. “After two years, our community has the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, our team is always available to answer questions and provide guidance to prevent the spread of disease.”

Positive cases will receive a text message from the TDH with isolation and quarantine recommendations. No personal information will be collected. The text will come from 629-262-9780.

Individuals who are COVID-19 positive or think they have been exposed should still follow the recommended Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus. Find information regarding COVID-19 isolation and quarantine at

https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/health/documents/cedep/novel-coronavirus/Isolation-QuarantineRelease.pdf.

TDH does not collect or report information from self-tests.

We will continue to investigate clusters and outbreaks in high-risk settings, such as long-term care facilities and shelters.

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department and TDH will no longer provide personal letters documenting isolation and quarantine recommendations for a case and contacts. Those who test positive for COVID-19 can provide documentation of their positive test result (such as a photo, print out of lab results, or note from a provider that administered the test) to indicate their need for exclusion from in-person activities during their period of isolation.

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will no longer provide weekly COVID-19 updates on Wednesdays. Madison County COVID-19 case information is available anytime at https://www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov/data/county-data-snapshot.html.

Call the Jackson-Madison County COVID-19 Public Information Line at 731-240-1771 for more information.
