9 resolutions approved by Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors during monthly meeting
The Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors reviewed nine new business items during its monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.
“All items, which were approved by the board, included resolutions for equipment purchases along with improvements to the gas and water systems,” Monte Jones said, “The board also approved participation for the City and County Bicentennial Celebration and the Chamber of Commerce Forward 3.0 campaign.”
Monte Jones is the chairman of the board at Jackson Energy Authority.
“The annual audit report was presented by representatives from Alexander Thompson & Arnold PLLC, which revealed no adverse findings,” Monte said, “The board complimented management on the successful audit for the prior fiscal year.
“Corporate Secretary, Aletza Boucher will be retiring this month and she was recognized for her dedicated service to JEA and work with the board.”
Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority board recommends Southern Airways Express
Jackson, TENNESSEE – A special called meeting of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority board lasted well over three hours as two airlines pitched their Essential Air Service proposals in person vying for recommendation to the Department of Transportation.
Five airlines originally submitted their proposals which were narrowed to Air Choice One, and Southern Airways Express. After hearing proposals and receiving answers to questions from both commuter airlines, the board voted to recommend Southern Airways Express as their selection with a two-year contract.
“Southern Airways has 35 aircraft with over 220 daily departures across the country,” said Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority. “Their on-time performance is #1 in the nation at 94.1%, and their controllable completion rate was over 99%.
“Those are two areas we expect an airline to deliver when flying out of McKellar-Sipes, and those facts resonated with the board, as well as the option for a King Air 200 aircraft.”
West Tennessee Healthcare – Brandon Avery named employee of the month
Brandon Avery, an employee for 14 years at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, was named West Tennessee Healthcare’s employee of the month for January.
Brandon, who is part of the Medical Response Team received the award during the West Tennessee Healthcare’s Board of Trustees monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.
The award was presented by Vice President: Teresa Freeman, CNO, JMCGH and Will Rasp, Director of Clinical Services.
According to Amy Garner – West Tennessee Healthcare system vice president chief compliance & communications officer – Brandon is always willing to help others and is very courteous while doing so.

Arby’s opening new restaurant at 1984 South Highland Avenue
Arby’s will open its fourth and newest restaurant in Jackson at 1984 South Highland Avenue, at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 31.
The 2,800 square foot restaurant will offer seating for 40 customers and will employ about 30 people.
Arby’s has restaurants at 208 Stonebrook Place, 601 Old Hickory Blvd., and 219 Parkstone Place near the Ballpark at Jackson.

Highlights from the December 2021 Labor Force Estimates:
The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased from 4.0 percent in November 2021 to 3.8 percent in December 2021.
During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased from 4.2 percent to 3.9 percent.
The unemployment rate decreased in 5 counties, increased in 87 counties, and remained the same in 3 counties.
Williamson County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.1 percent.
Perry County had the highest unemployment rate at 7.9 percent.
