The historic Jackson High School campus will not sit vacant when the new Madison Academic High School building opens in the fall.
Superintendent Dr. Marlon King has announced plans to transition the district’s Central Office from 310 North Parkway to 179 Allen Avenue once Madison faculty and staff are moved to the new building, which is currently under construction on the University of Memphis Lambuth campus. Moving the Jackson-Madison County School Board office is a significant step toward greater investment in the area around the renovated Jackson Central-Merry 6-12 campus.
Additional plans for the historic Jackson High building include offices for a revamped family support program, as well as safety command center for video surveillance of the district’s 24 campuses – 25 with the revival of Malesus for Jackson Academic STEAM Academy.
The construction of an athletic complex for Cougar football and track is also being planned for the area adjacent to Oman Arena.
The current Central Office building, which was once a vocational training hub for the high school students, will be used as a hub for ACT testing, teacher professional development and adult education services.
