JACKSON, TN – (June 10, 2015) – The Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA) will host its 11th annual Canstruction event Thursday, September 17th at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Steven Curtis Chapman will be the featured entertainer. “We are excited to have Steven Curtis Chapman as the entertainment for Canstruction this year”, said Lisa Tillman, RIFA Executive Director.

After starting his career in the late 1980s as a singer-songwriter of contemporary Christian music, Steven Curtis Chapman has since been recognized as one of the most prolific and awarded artist in the genre. Chapman has also won five Grammy awards, 57 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, 47 No. 1 singles and approaching 11 million albums sold.

Chapman has recorded eighteen albums with his most recent album entitled THE GLORIOUS UNFOLDING.

“Canstruction is RIFA’s signature event and provides food and funds as well as raises awareness about the issue of hunger in our community,” Tillman said. Canstruction is a designing and building competition that aims to feed the hungry in the Madison County area, where more than 18,000 residents are considered to be “food insecure.”

Teams of local businesses, churches, industries and schools will build the structures on September 15th with the awards banquet on September 17th. There are still four spots available for teams to sign up through August 3. Viewings of the “Canstructions” will be open to the public Sept. 15-19.

Canstruction is a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed the hungry. Competing teams showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition, all of the food used in the structures is donated to the RIFA Food Bank to distribute to other nonprofits in the Jackson-Madison County area.

When Canstruction began in 2005, the event yielded almost 9,000 meals, and the goal for this year’s event is 25,000 meals.

Tickets are $100 per person, $750 per table of 8 and balcony tickets are $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased at www.rifajackson.org/stevencurtischapman or call RIFA at 731.427.7963.
