Stitts Has Court Date Set On Domestic Violence, Attempted 1st Degree Murder

JACKSON Tenn (April 7, 2015) – The man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend had his first court appearance Tuesday morning.

Michael John Stitts was arraigned before Jackson City Judge Blake Anderson on charges stemming from Monday’s Domestic Violence shooting.

According to the warrant, at approximately 5:30 a.m. 911 received a call to 253 Highview Street of a man attempting to break in the residence. Officers say they found Michael Stitts, with a 28-gauge shotgun lying in a backyard beside the 253 address. According to officers, the shotgun had on spent round in the chamber. Stitts also had 21 shotgun shells in his pocket. Stitts told officers there was someone inside 253 Highview house they needed to check on and they should kick in the door.

Officers found Mary Ann Greer in the living room with two wounds that appeared to be from a shotgun.  One wound to the shoulder and another to the chest.  Ms Greer was taken to a hospital by EMS.

Investigators say the front door had a hole that appeared to be from a shotgun blast. A bathroom door and a door frame also appeared to have shotgun blast damage.  Officers say there was a blood in the kitchen, hallway, and living room of the home.  Investigators found three spent shotgun shells at the residence.

42-year-old Michael John Stitts is charged with; Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Especially Agg. Burglary, Possessing a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Bond was set at $750,000, his next court appearance is Thursday
