The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department has sent a fuel trailer to Florida to help people affected by Hurricane Michael. The trailer can hold up to 900 gallons of fuel. It will resupply ambulances transporting patients.
According to a press release, the trailer and an ambulance strike team from Medical Center EMS left Jackson Wednesday morning. The team is made up of four EMTs, five paramedics and one mechanic. They took four ambulances, a supervisor truck, and a mechanic vehicle pulling the fuel trailer.
There is also one ambulance with two paramedics from Henderson County.
The group will spend seven to 14 days in Florida helping people affected by Hurricane Michael.
The Tennessee Department of Health deployed a total of three ambulance strike teams from across the state to help with response. They include 15 ambulances, five support vehicles, and 35 personnel total.
“As healthcare professionals it’s our duty to help those in need,” Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department Emergency Response Director Lynn Mooney said. “When disasters strike it is important to help our neighbors.”
The West Area Tennessee Coalition for Healthcare (WATCH) provided the fuel trailer. The health department oversees the coalition.
