JACKSON, Tenn. – For the second year, hometown favorite and former Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl champion, Ed “Too Tall” Jones will be celebrity golfer for the Follow Me Celebrity Golf Classic, being hosted by the Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce (JMCAACC) on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 8:30 a.m. at Bent Tree Golf Course, 2993 Paul Coffman Drive.
Edward Lee Jones was the first overall draft choice in the 1974 NFL Draft and went on to play 15 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. An avid golfer, he graduated Merry High School in Jackson and Tennessee State University in Nashville.
Tournament co-chairs are Ted Austin, vice president for customer service and community relations at Jackson Energy Authority (JEA), and Dr. Charley Deal, associate vice chancellor for alumni relations and annual giving at the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM). Celebrity Co-chair is Derrick Burroughs, a former NFL Buffalo Bills cornerback who now serves athletic director and head football coach at Lane College.
Also, playing in the tournament is Jerry Reese and his Team 4 Success golfers. Both Austin and Deal have known Reese since he played and later coached football at UT Martin. Senior vice president and general manager for the New York Giants from 2007 to 2017, he led the professional football team to two Super Bowl victories, 2008 and 2012. Born in Tiptonville (also located in West Tennessee), Jerry Reese was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
The Follow Me Celebrity Golf Classic is a four-player scramble open to men, women, mixed teams, and individual players. Registration is $100 per person and golfer receive goodie bag, a hot, grilled lunch cooked by the co-chairs, and a sleeve of golf balls from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).
