No Indictments in the Dillon McGee Shooting Death

MADISON CO Tenn — There are new developments in the shooting death of Dillon McGee.

According to District Attorney General Jerry Woodall, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation recently completed its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Dillon McGee by a Madison County Deputy Sheriff.

The evidence from the TBI’s investigation was presented to the Madison County grand jury.

On Monday the grand jury heard evidence from the investigation for consideration of whether any appropriate criminal charges were warranted related to the death of McGee.

The grand jury declined to authorize any charges.

Madison County Sheriff John Mehr said he has not discussed the investigation with TBI or the DA’s office. Mehr said he is pleased the investigation is over and the evidence was presented to the grand jury. Mehr added that having an independent investigation gives the community assurance that all the facts were vetted thoroughly.

18-year-old Dillon McGee was killed by a Madison County deputy sheriff on Friday September 26, 2014.

According to TBI, around 1:30 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office approached a car occupied by two people in a parking lot at 18 Three Way Lane. Deputies wanted to talk with both individuals regarding an ongoing investigation.

The TBI said that as deputies approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly attempted to run over them. One deputy fired at the vehicle fatally wounding Dillon McGee.

The vehicle left the parking lot, crossed four lanes of the U.S. 45 Bypass and  came to a stop on the property of Quality Outdoor Products, Three Way.
