BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.— Violence moved out of North Brownsville and closer to city-center last night. Two men were wounded when shots were fired on Tyus Street. Brothers Joseph and Justin Perry were sitting in a car parked in a driveway on Tyus Street when they were both wounded. Justin Perry is 28 and Joseph is 25.
Brownsville police were notified about 10:15 p.m. One of the Perry brothers was seriously wounded and flown to a Memphis hospital. The other brother was taken to Memphis. Details are still sketchy and so far Brownsville Radio has been unable to determine which brother was the most seriously injured. Police did not describe their wounds.
The brothers told police that a gunman or gunmen walked up to the car and started firing. Police picked up 20 spent cartridges.

Since last September, when one man was shot down and another wounded, gun violence has become an almost routine occurrence in North Brownsville. The Tyus street neighborhood, which is located between East College and East Cherry Streets, hasn’t been completely off limits though. A young man was murdered on Cherry Street late last year and a car was struck by gunfire on nearby Bond Street.
Police haven’t said if all of the shootings are linked.
No arrests have been made. A reward is available for useful information by calling the anonymous Crimestoppers number at 772-CASH.
