When Baker’s Family Pharmacy opens at 200 West Main Street, it should give downtown Jackson another shot in the arm.

If things go well, owner Sherry Middleton hopes to have the 2,500-square-foot facility open by the end of the week.

“We’re not 100 percent sure we can open Friday, but we will know by Wednesday,” Sherry said. “We’re pushing to open by Friday.”

Sherry also owns Family Pharmacy in Lexington and Scotts Hill.

Top Notch Home Improvement of Lexington has the task of renovating the Jackson store.

“We started renovations in August,” Trent Roberts, owner of Top Notch, said. “We’ve painted, replaced a portion of the floor tiles, and we’ll also change out the lighting.”

Chris Alexander, vice president of retail and residential development for Healthy Community LLC, said the pharmacy will only be a plus for downtown Jackson.

“It’s filling a big void downtown,” Chris said. “It’s providing another service and it’s going to serve the growing downtown population.”
