Education Vision Committee met Tuesday night. School board members told the commissioners that Dr Ruffin was preparing a plan for reorganization. A reorganization plan includes possible: rezoning, building consolidation, reduction in workforce, and reassignments.
School board chairman Jim Campbell told the committee that the system is fully-funded and yet is on track to run out of money so the only option he knew of is a reallocation of dollars. That means probably some building consolidation, emphasizing education is not about bricks and mortar, as well as other changes for how education is delivered. The reorganization means there will be some jobs lost and some jobs created.
Campbell told commissioners the board very much believes in the programs they want to implement like: Reading 180, Middle school Academic Academy and technology plans but they can't do it without making changes in how dollars are budgeted. Campbell said we want to paint a picture of how things will look after we are through and hope the community buys into it.
Commissioners told the board the would like to see reorganization in 12 months, board members said that might not be doable.
