(October 22, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The Keep Jackson Beautiful Commission discussed two recycling events within the next four weeks at their meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The first event, coming October 26, is the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. It will be held from 9AM to 1PM behind the Farmers Market in Downtown Jackson.
At this event, they will accept multiple items. According to the flyer about the event, these are the following things that the collection will accept:
- Oil-based paint, thinner, stripper, adhesives, and other home improvement products.
- Household cleaners, such as drain and oven cleaners, polishes, and disinfectants.
- Herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers and other lawn and garden products.
- Anti-freeze, gasoline, refrigerants, oil and fuel additives, contaminated used oil and other automotive products.
- Computers, computer parts and other electronic waste.
- Batteries, pool chemicals, aerosols, fluorescent light bulbs and other miscellaneous wastes.
- Hazardous waste from conditionally exempt small quantity generators by appointment only (emphasis theirs). Call 615-634-3180.
There are also multiple things that they will not accept at this waste collection site. The list of items they won’t accept follows:
- Latex Paint
- Medical or Infectious waste
- Radioactive waste
- Smoke detectors
- Empty containers
- Ammunition or explosives
- Waste from commercial businesses

The other event takes place on November 16. It’s America Recycles Day and Keep Jackson Beautiful is participating in the event by hosting a recycling drive at the Fire Training Station in front of the Fairgrounds.
At this recycling event, also running from 9AM to 1PM, they will host e-cycling, document shredding, and prescription take back.
They do not that they will not accept televisions and to please limit shredding to 5 boxes of documents.
