(September 30, 2013) Washington- The United States Congress is locked in another budget battle. The stakes this time: a government shut-down.
The question on many American minds has been, “What happens if the government shuts down?”
We’ve already seen some effects from just the threat of a shutdown. The Dow plummeted 150 points when it opened on Monday.
The full effects of the shutdown, however, will feel a bit more personal.
National parks, the National Zoo, and the Smithsonian museums will all be closed. In total, 369 National Park Service sites will be closed.
Many federal employees will be furloughed, but some would be expected to work during the government shutdown without pay.
Just because the government shuts down doesn’t mean you won’t be taxed. The government will still collect taxes.
Many more effects will be felt from the shutdown on Tuesday, but if Congress comes to a deal, the shutdown will be averted and the government will continue to run until the debt ceiling fight later this month.
