
Dodd announces he will seek election to become City Councilman for district 2 but he will not seek the appointment to fill the vacancy left be his resignation. Dodd said “While seeking appointment to the City Council would provide me the immediate path to representing the people of District 2 again, I have elected not to pursue that position, but allow the people of District 2 to decide by the power of their vote.”
Johnny Dodd resigned from the Jackson City Council after news reports that past felony conviction made him ineligible to serve in public office. Dodd’s conviction was for Grand Larceny*. The incident occurred when Dodd was an employee of Service Merchandise in 1989, he was given a 4-year sentence. Dodd had his right to vote restored in 1998 but never went to the court to have his right to serve in public office reinstated.
After Dodd resigned he filed with the court to have a hearing about his rights. On monday February 7th Dodd appeared in Circuit Court before Judge Roy Morgan, Jr.
