(December 2, 2013) Jackson TN – Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork has been officially charged in connection with an October Domestic Violence incident.
On Monday a Madison County Grand Jury handed down a two-count indictment. Woolfork has been charged by the Grand Jury with 1 count of Felony Criminal Att. Aggravated Sexual Battery and 1 count of Domestic Assault.
If convicted the felony county carries a 3 – 15 year sentencing range, 3 – 6 years for first time offenders.
Woolfork self-surrendered to the Chester County Sheriff's Department. He was processed and released on $20,000. bond.
The charges stem from an incident that occured October 10, 2013. Jackson Police were called to Edenwood Drive in Jackson on a Domestic violence call.
No one was arrested that time but an investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Jackson Police.
Upon completion of the investigation the case was turned over to Amy Weirich, Shelby County District Attorney's office. Madison County DA Jerry Woodall recused his office.
Madison County Sheriff's Department employee Sharon Sangster alleges that Woolfork came to her home, was physically and verbally abusive. Sangster alleges Woolfork forced her to the bed and attempted to force her to have sex.
Woolfork denies all the charges.
Both parties have admitted to a sexual relationship that lasted over a two year span.
In addition to criminal charges Sangster has filed a Sexual Harassment suit against the County and Madison COunty Sheriff's Department. The Madion County Commission has authorized the attorney's to begin mediation for a settlement.
Woolfork's first court appearance will be an Arraignment hearing, scheduled for 1:30 P.M. January 6, 2014, in Madison County Circuit Court.
A press conference has been called for 9AM on Tuesday morning.
