Officers canvassed neighborhoods in areas where recent home and auto burglaries have occurred. These officers made 21 personal contacts where they interacted with citizens and listened to their concerns. Police distributed 45 informational door hangers, which gave crime fighting tips.

Officers also walked through Lincoln Elementary School, North Parkway Middle School, Whitehall Pre-K and Washington Douglas Headstart in an effort to positively interact with children.

Police conducted a sex offender compliance check on 28 of the registered 83 sex offenders in Jackson. Of those 28 checked, 25 were found in compliance, one was out of compliance and two could not be verified.

Investigators attempted to personally contact victims of recently reported crimes to see if the citizens had any new information that might advance their cases. Police also used this as an opportunity to inquire about conditions in their neighborhoods and for them to share information with officers.

Officers wrote eight parking tickets, issued 98 traffic citations for a total of 155 violations, conducted 142 warrant checks, and observed and documented graffiti in two areas.

Police seized 64.8 grams of marijuana, .five grams of cocaine, one hydrocodone pill and two clonazepam pills.

Officers also recovered a backpack containing the components used to manufacture methamphetamine. The backpack was in the vicinity of a man who was arrested on other charges. Investigators intend to question him further about his knowledge and ownership of the backpack. The man has not been formally charged with any meth related charges at this time.

Operation Checkmate is a law enforcment saturation effort intended to pressure and capture criminals, remove illegal contraban such as illegal weapons, drugs, and minimize the abilty of criminals to commit illegal activity. The operation also gives law enforcement the opportunity to positively interact with law abiding citizens in an effort to make neighborhoods safer for everyone
