Jackson-Madison County School Receives Literacy Grant

(August 22, 2013, Jackson, TN) – Dr. Michael Booker, principal of Jackson Central - Merry Academy of Medical Technology announced today that his
school will receive a $2,000 Literacy Grant from Dollar General. The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is celebrating 20 years of helping individuals learn to read. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $81 million to nonprofit organizations and schools that have helped more than 4.7 million individuals advance their literacy and basic education skills.

According to the Dollar General website, their Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas:

• Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs

• Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives

• Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs

JCM believes that ‘every little bit counts’ when it comes to literacy. "We know that it is what will propel our students towards higher learning,”
stated Booker.
