(March 19, 2014) Jackson Tenn – Jackson Madison County Central Office confirms that Nova Elementary School was briefly in lockdown at the request of Madison County Sheriff's Department.
The request came after a citizen reported seeing suspicious people in the area around the school and that they were armed with long guns.
Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded and began a search.
Two juveniles were located carrying pellet guns. The juveniles were questioned and said they were on Spring Break from school and were bird hunting.
The juveniles were not trespassing and had not violated the law so they were not detained
MCSO Lt Jerry Elston said "Madison County Sheriff's Department has a great working relationship with all the schools and this is the kind of thing we plan for. Everything worked just as it is supposed to. We are glad this had a good conclusion."
