We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved former President and CEO, Jim Moss, a visionary leader whose legacy will forever shape the future of healthcare in our region.

During his tenure at West Tennessee Healthcare from 1981 to 2008, Mr. Moss transformed a single hospital into a comprehensive, integrated healthcare system—expanding access and ensuring high quality, compassionate care across all of West Tennessee.

His leadership was instrumental in the creation of our heart program, the establishment of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, the expansion of EMS services, growth of rural hospital care, and post-acute and community-based care. These initiatives were not just strategic achievements; they were reflections of his unwavering belief that every person deserves compassionate, high-quality healthcare close to home.

Beyond growth and innovation, Mr. Moss was known for cultivating a culture rooted in “love and respect for people”— for patients, employees, physicians, and community members alike. He believed healthcare was, at its core, a calling to serve others, and he lived that belief every day. He would often say, “people don’t care how much you know ‘til they know how much you care.”

His impact will be felt for generations, not only in the programs he built, but in the lives he touched and the leaders he inspired. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
