The Miss Volunteer America Pageant has returned to Jackson, bringing women from all 50 states and the District of Columbia to the Hub City to compete for the crown.
The contestants arrived in Jackson on Sunday, June 18, where they immediately began interacting with the community.
An opening ceremony was held at the Ned, where each young woman and their Miss Volunteer America Princess was introduced.
Following the opening ceremony, a meet and greet opportunity was held at Hub City Brewing. Each contestant took the time to sign autographs and take pictures with supporters of all ages.
“It’s overwhelming sometimes when I stop and think about how many people have come from far and wide to be here,” said Allison Alderson DeMarcus, Founder of Miss Volunteer America. “I’m just so proud of our great city and thankful we have such a wonderful place for us to all come.”
These events were only the start of a busy week for the contestants. They will participate in rehearsals, luncheons and private interviews before the onstage competition begins Wednesday.
Preliminary competition will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. Finals will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.
The event will also be live streamed at pageantslive.com.
