On August 17, 2024, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the Jackson Police Department was notified of a ShotSpotter Alert in the area of Allenton Heights.

Almost simultaneously, multiple calls came in relating to shots fired in the same area.

Officers were dispatched and arrived within a minute of the original ShotSpotter Alert.

Upon arrival, patrol officers were alerted that an individual may have been shot inside an apartment at 236 Conger Street.

A short time later, an individual arrived at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with a gunshot wound. The individual was treated and released.

A perimeter was established for public safety around the apartment building and other resources were called to assist.

The Jackson Police Department SWAT Team along with the Hostage Negotiation Team were activated and arrived on the scene.

During the preliminary investigation it revealed a domestic situation had occurred.

Entry to the residence was made by the SWAT Team using available technology and a female victim was discovered, who appeared to be deceased, laying on the first floor of the residence near the stairs.

A decision was made to use chemical agents on the second floor of the apartment. After deploying the chemical agents, an armed individual believed to be the suspect, came downstairs to the first floor.

The suspect eventually came to the door unarmed and surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without incident.
