The West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees approved nine resolutions during their monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Friday.
Highlights from the meeting include –
Special Report
James Ross, CEO, and Deann Thelen, CEO-JMCGH, recognized Scott Bloodworth in Pastoral Care for all that he does to support staff and patients and families. Scott also acknowledged the team in Pastoral Care for all that they do, and said a special prayer for the attendees of the meeting.

Scott Krodel, CIO, and Dr. Claude Pirtle, CMIO, provided a special report on telehealth and remote patient monitoring of COVID-19 patients. To date, we have served 422 patients in this program.
Medical Staff Privileges
The Board approved recommendations for medical staff privileges at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital as presented by Dr. Jackie Taylor, Chief Physician Executive.

The Board approved a resolution presented by James Ross, CEO, for Seth Rudd, CPA/CGMA to be appointed to the Pathways Advisory Board for a three year term.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Tina Prescott, COO, for Mr. Shawn Hatler to be appointed to the Camden Hospital Advisory Board for a three year term.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Tina Prescott, COO, for Michael (Mickey) McAdoo, M.D., Mr. Elton Sims, and Ms. Marilyn Hutchison to be appointed to the Milan Hospital Advisory Board for a three year term.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Scott Krodel, CIO, to purchase and implement Epic EMR for ambulatory clinics at a total cost of $10,367,085 over a two year period from budgeted District funds.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Scott Krodel, CIO, to purchase and implement an Information Technology infrastructure upgrade and create a secondary data center at a total cost not to exceed $15,260,684 from budgeted District funds and annual operational costs of $195,960.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Deann Thelen, CEO-JMCGH, to lease two da Vinci XI Surgical Systems with supplies and Simulator in the amount of $3,363,750 over 66 months with future service contracts of $288,000 to be budgeted in appropriate fiscal years. The older robotic systems will be traded in on the new equipment.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Deann Thelen, CEO-JMCGH, and Tim Adams, VP, to renovate North Hospital campus for short stay orthopedic procedures and elective total joint procedures at a cost of $12,876,903 from budgeted District funds.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Darrell King, VP, to renovate and expand the clinic space at Thomsen Farms at a cost of $1,466,300 from budgeted District funds.

The Board approved a resolution presented by Jeff Blankenship, CFO, to sell property located at 2017 South College Street in Trenton, Tennessee, for $2,900,000.
Quality Dashboard and COVID-19 Report
Dr. Jackie Taylor, Chief Physician Executive, presented the WTH Quality Dashboard. Tina Prescott, COO, provided an update on COVID-19 activities.
CFO Report
Jeff Blankenship, Chief Financial Officer, presented a summary of the organization’s financial performance through October. October’s results were very similar to prior months, where revenue tracked in line with budget and expenses were over budget. With an increasing number of COVID cases, inpatient and medical volume increases offset generally lower outpatient volume. Costs were up with extended hospital stays, direct COVID-related costs, and increasing staffing costs in general.   With the increased cost, October’s operating income was below budget. Year to-date, the health system’s operating margin was -1.7% vs. +1.5% budgeted.
President’s Report
James Ross, President and CEO, thanked the Board for approving the resolutions to allow us to upgrade technology and patient care equipment. Mr. Ross recognized Ruby Kirby has been appointed to AHA Rural Health Council.
Mr. Ross also recognized our TAVR program for being accredited through the American College of Cardiology. Mrs. Thelen announced that we are the only program in Tennessee and one of three in the Southeast to receive this accreditation.
Mr. Ross recognized Senator Ed Jackson for coordinating the Black Hawk helicopter flyover at JMCGH today to salute our healthcare workers and first responders.
Mr. Ross expressed condolences to the family and coworkers of Kim Mitchell, Admitting, who passed away recently from COVID-19.
